Reclaiming Catholicism: Treasures Old and New

ANNUAL MINISTRY RENEWAL DAY

November 12, 2010

Presenters: Thomas H. Groome, STM professor of theology and religious education, and Margaret Eletta Guider, O.S.F., STM associate professor of missiology

The American Church of pre-Vatican II was surely one of the most vibrant instances of Catholicism in the history of the world.  Yet, the pilgrim people of God must keep moving forward toward God's Reign that is coming to meet us; to turn and go back would be a loss of faith.  Can we reclaim some of its practices, perspectives, and personalities as resources for a vibrant faith in our own time?  To "reclaim" does not mean to regress or retreat or simply repeat; rather it is to discern what this pilgrim people should leave behind or bring with us as “treasures old and new.”
