The Challenge of Catholicity: Becoming a “catholic” Catholic Church

LECTURE

February 11, 2010

Presenter: Rev. Richard Lennan, STM professor of systematic theology and priest of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle, Australia

Each time we proclaim the Creed, we profess belief in “one, holy, catholic and apostolic church.”  Those adjectives can be problematic, but “catholic” is perhaps especially so.  This lecture explores the meaning of the Church’s catholicity, including the claim that it makes on all Christians. It focuses on the challenge of achieving catholicity today and the particular issues it raises for Roman Catholics.
