Ministry Description:
Unlike most 335-year-old congregations, our church is a vibrant, growing community that has doubled our Sunday School enrollment to over 120 children in just the past ten years. We are looking for a Minister of Christian Education (MCE) who can build upon our success by upgrading our Sunday School Program to meet our expanding needs, and help us materialize our growing interest in educational opportunities for youth and adults. We seek an inspired, dynamic, outgoing and creative person who has a strong relationship with Christ. The MCE will work under the mentorship of the Pastor and in coordination with the Board of Christian Education to oversee all the educational opportunities of the church, and nurture and empower volunteers, teachers and leaders as they help others grow in their faith.
Hours: Part Time (20-25 hours/week variable by needs)
Reports to: Pastor & Board of Christian Education
Supervises: Sunday School, Youth and Adult Christian Ed Programs
Start Date: August 2013
Qualifications
Personal commitment to the Christian Faith. Enthusiastic and optimistic about educational ministry. Ability to work with and nurture people’s development as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Academic training in education and theology. Theological Degree Preferred.
Experience in the church in either volunteer or professional positions and/or experience in teaching, administration and supervision.
Primary Goals:
Direct Sunday School Program:
Upgrade our vibrant, engaging and relevant Sunday School curriculum that is spiritually appropriate for all ages and that addresses the special needs of all youth.
Instruct and mentor Sunday School teachers on forms and methods of teaching and engaging students.
Facilitate the transition from participation and leadership in the Sunday School program to active participation and involvement in adult worship services.
Youth Group Programs:
Develop experiential learning opportunities outside of Sunday School for spiritual growth of youth, including local, national, and international mission work.
Develop and Direct events for Youth Recreation in a Christian Environment.
Adult Christian Education Programs:
Develop and lead relevant, spiritual, Christian education programs that address the issues facing adults in today’s society, and expand spiritual and social awareness.
Develop programs to address the needs and issues of parents, single parents, and families.
Financial Compensation: $20,000 to $23,000 dollars per year
