TITLE: Campus Minister (10 month)
DEPARTMENT: Mercy Center for Spiritual Life
REPORTS TO: Director of Mercy Center for Spiritual Life
SUPERVISES: work study student
BASIC FUNCTION:
Serve as a member of the Mercy Center for Spiritual Life team to implement programs, experiences and opportunities that will enhance and foster the faith life of the Salve Regina community.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Model a genuine spirit of hospitality and mercy.
Be friendly to and supportive of the Catholic identity and mission initiatives of the University.
Provide opportunities for the university community to learn about and experience the rich heritage of the Catholic Church and the Mercy tradition of Salve Regina.
Engage with students and create occasions for spiritual growth and transformation appropriate to their needs and goals such as retreats and bible studies.
Involve students in practices that advance the social justice teachings of the Catholic Church and the mission values of Salve Regina University.
Prepare students for lives of service and ensure that theological reflection is an integral part of service experiences.
Collaborate with academic departments and student life to promote a campus culture that respects and celebrates a variety of voices and perspectives, especially in regard to the diverse religious traditions and beliefs at Salve Regina.
Encourage student participation in programs that will help them reflect on their vocation and develop skills for a successful and meaningful life.
Be available to provide spiritual guidance and support for all constituencies of the university community.
Be an active presence on campus at student and university events.
LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:
Valid driver’s license required.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
The position does not substantially expose an individual to adverse environmental conditions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree in theology, pastoral ministry, religious education or other appropriate field. Previous experience in campus ministry at the college level or experience in young adult ministry or adult parish ministry. A collaborative leadership style is necessary. Multiple skill-sets in religious education, retreats, service learning, social media, liturgy, and/or group leadership and development are essential. Persons of diverse backgrounds and experiences are welcome and encouraged to apply.
This position requires that the person:
· Possess public relations skills for effective oral and written communication.
· Possess the ability to initiate and implement creative programs.
· Demonstrate the ability to work independently and effectively with administrators, faculty, staff and students.
· Demonstrate the ability to work as a collegial team member of the Mercy center staff.
· Is able to interpret institutional policies, plans, objectives, rules and regulations.
· Is a Roman Catholic in good standing able to interpret and follow the guidelines and regulations of the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Providence when designing, scheduling and implementing programs, liturgies and special events.
· Must be available on nights and weekends as required.
This position requires twenty-four hour callback in cases of emergency.
This position could, on occasion, require bending, reaching, ascending and descending stairs, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, talking, and hearing.
