JOB TITLE:         Pastoral Care Chaplain                                              

FLSA STATUS:    Full time

REPORTS TO:     Province Leadership Team                                                                                             

 

JOB OBJECTIVE

Provide pastoral care and service within the framework of the Sisters of Notre Dame Community at Ipswich including St. Julie Billiart Residential Care Center.   The mission and philosophy of the Sisters of Notre Dame will be foundational for this service.  Services are provided to residents, family and visitors to ensure that spiritual and pastoral needs are met. 

 

Specifically, provide End of Life care: presence, prayer, ritual, emotional and spiritual support for resident, family, staff. 

 

With the Ipswich Community Liturgy and Spiritual Life Committees, and the Funeral Committee, plan, organize and lead prayer services, liturgical/sacramental celebrations, funerals and oversee Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors.

 

The Pastoral Care Chaplain will work in collaboration with the Sacramental Chaplain.

 

POSITION  QUALIFICATIONS:

Master’s Degree is preferred with knowledge of specialized fields of theology, spirituality, liturgy, psychology.

A minimum 2-4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) is required, certification with National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) or Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) or its equivalent is preferred.  Experience working with infirm elderly is needed as well as excellent communication and counseling skills, compassion, patience, tact, positive attitude, integrity, and cheerful enthusiasm.

 

SCOPE OF POSITION:

This position reports to the designated Province Leadership Team member and works cooperatively with the Administrator of SJB, the Community Coordinators, and Sacramental Chaplain.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS &PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

1.        Must be able to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during working hours.

2.       Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language in an understandable manner.

3.        Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.

4.       Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with others.

5.        Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics to enable these senses to function adequately so the requirements of the position can be fulfilled.

6.       Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.

7.        Must be able to relate to and work well with the elderly.

8.       Maintains confidentiality.

9.       Works beyond normal working hours, weekends, and holidays as necessary.

10.    Is subject to call back during emergency conditions.

11.     Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 25 lbs.

12.    May be necessary to assist in an evacuation during an emergency situation.

13.     Adheres to NDTS (Notre Dame Training School) Handbook Policies.
