Campus Minister - First Year Experience

Duties and Responsibilities
1. Serves as the Campus Ministry's liaison for outreach to First Year students and First Year Initiatives.
a. Develops and leads Campus Ministry's responsibilities for Orientation sessions (L.U.V session and resource fair) for First Year students;
b. Collaborates with Office of First Year Initiatives in the development of programs for First year students;
c. Monitors the departments "Get Involved" spreadsheet; contacts students who have made inquiries and makes appropriate referrals to Campus Ministry staff members.
2. Coordinates the Loyola Companions, peer ministry program for first year students.
a. Provides overall direction for the Loyola Companions articulating the four pillars of the program as faith, community, leadership, and service;
b. Supervises the Companions leadership team and peer ministers fulfilling the following tasks:
i. Recruits and trains the Companions leadership team and student peer ministers
ii. Schedules the Companions for hall visits and department events
iii. Communicates expectations of program goals to Companions
iv. Trains Companions to conduct faith based programs
v. Trains Companions on how to do mental health referrals
c. Assesses student learning outcomes; prepares an annual report of activities and a description of Loyola Companions achievements
3. Prepares and leads retreats.
a. Under the direction of the Associate Director of Campus Ministry, prepares retreats including the recruitment of student leaders and their formation, along with the evaluation and assessment of the retreat;
b. Typical assignment would be to a minimum of four retreats annually with a priority given to Loyola 360, the First Year student retreat;
c. Coordinates all follow through to First Year students making Loyola 360 retreats; coordinates 360 reunions, refers retreat participants to other Campus Ministry programs.
4. The Campus Minister designs and implements faith based programs that enable students to develop an adult appropriation of their Catholic, Christian faith.
a. Coordinates five programs on the St. John's Bible. At least one of these programs must be inter-religious in nature;
b. Coordinates Campus Ministry's social media hub and website using these on-line tools as tools for outreach to students.
5. Coordinates one learning community.
a. Collaborates with Residence Life and Academic partner to develop and implement a faith based learning community.
6. Provides pastoral support for students in need by responding to referrals from Residence Life, Wellness, Conduct, and other departments.
a. Actively collaborates with the Residence Life team in assigned area;
b. Maintains a regular meeting schedule with R.D.s;
c. Serves as collaborative team member of the Wellness Team, meeting weekly with Residence Life and Wellness staff to assess and address needs of individual residents. Follows up with referrals as needed.
7. General Campus Ministry Responsibilities:
a. Participate in campus ministry staff and committee meetings;
b. Takes regular "on-duty" rotation with department cell phone for emergencies;
c. Regularly participates in the weekly Sunday 10:30, 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Campus Ministry masses;
d. Provides written reports on program activities to the director of campus ministry;
e. Leads an alternative service immersion trip as assigned;
f. Serves on Campus Ministry retreats as assigned;
g. Serves on University and Division committees as assigned;
h. Other duties as required.
Minimum Education or Experience:
M.Div. or other pastoral ministry degree supplemented with three years of pastoral ministry experience, preferably in a university setting.
Certificates, credentials or licenses required to perform the duties of this position:
Valid Driver's license.
Computer Skills:
- Advanced MS word, MS Excel and MS PowerPoint.
- Adept user of Internet, email, Facebook, and other social media.
- Entry-level skills in creating web pages using CMS software.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of young adult faith development and student development theory.
- Knowledge and experience with small Christian faith sharing groups including experience with Ignatian spirituality.
- Understanding of and ability to articulate Loyola's Jesuit, Catholic mission.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and an aptitude for dealing with confidential and sensitve issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills and public speaking are required.
- Demonstrated commitment to minister to students from diverse faith traditions.

This position is focused on ministry with First Year students.
This position requires evening and weekend work hours.
Additionally there are some overnights when the Campus Minister facilitates retreats and immersion trips.
