Job Description
Basic Functions:
To provide leadership, direction and coordination to the ministries of liturgy, prayer and worship, music, community building and outreach, service and social justice, and other ministries as needed.
The Director of Ministries is a person of faith committed to Gospel values. He or she works with the Pastor ministerial staff and parish leadership toward implementing the mission of St. Joseph Parish.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- To provide leadership, support and participation in the coordination of the Prayer and Worship ministries, including liturgy planning, as implemented by staff and volunteers.
- To foster participation of the laity in all parish ministries and outreach
- Participates in initial and ongoing formation of parish ministers and groups.
- Assists the pastor in fostering a sense of community in which all members feel a sense of welcome, belonging and engagement in the parish and the larger church.
- Works with the Commissions on Prayer and Worship, Community Building and Social Justice and Service.
- Serves as advisor, coordinator and/or implementer for ministries that fall under the auspices of the three commissions as mentioned in #5.
Job Requirements
Education required:
MA in Theology, Pastoral Studies, Divinity or related field.
Experience required:
5 years of successful parish ministry experience with direct experience with all aspects of liturgy planning for the Mass and special occasions (i.e. funerals, weddings).
Skills required:
The position requires excellent interpersonal skills in: volunteer recruiting and support, staff coaching, supervision, pastoral sensitivity along with skills in planning, writing, speaking and program development.
Personal Traits:
A deep personal faith and devotion to the liturgy. The ability to multitask in a high volume, complex environment. A strong commitment to social justice in the workplace and sense of stewardship for the human, physical and financial assets of the organization.
Other required:
Flexibility to work evenings and weekends when necessary and ability to travel in one’s own vehicle to various Archdiocesan locations, when necessary. Must demonstrate understanding, respect and support for Catholic Church teaching, mission and values.
