St. Catherine University seeks a Campus Minister as a member of the Campus Ministry Center professional staff and team, the Campus Minister for Social Justice will continue to develop campus ministry justice and volunteer programs on both campuses in collaboration with CM staff and other university departments and efforts, with a particular emphasis on partnering in programs with Residence Life, Economic Justice and Public Policy, the Justice Commission of the Sisters of St Joseph, and other justice-oriented groups at St. Catherine University. Ultimately this position aims to provide students with practical and spiritually/religiously reflective opportunities to integrate charitable service and justice advocacy into the rhythm of their lives and into how they see their role in the world.

• Organize students for justice advocacy.
• With students, help plan, recruit for, and lead justice service trips and School of Americas (SOA) Vigil, and bring learning back to campus community.
• Serve as Advisor to Volunteers in Action (VIA) and support VIA student coordinator in designing and leading volunteer experiences and reflections.
• Stimulate interest in and collaborate with others to plan citizen education and social justice programs and learning opportunities.
• Work with Director of Campus Ministry on developing, educating and cultivating Catholic Identity among Student Affairs Staff.
• Attend, support, and encourage Sunday Mass /ecumenical prayers on both campuses. Assist with major campus events in the Chapel.
• Participate in campus events on and develop programs for the Minneapolis campus.
• Staff time and professional development.
• Meet with students providing pastoral presence/counseling

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree required, with a preferred concentration in the liberal arts, specifically theology, religious studies or sociology.
• Three (3) years experience in campus ministry or social justice/social change leadership in a higher education setting.
• Basic theological training is essential for this position.
• Knowledge of the principles of Catholic Social Teaching & the Christian social justice tradition.
• Knowledge of a variety of justice and peace issues and the ability to articulate their place in the life of faith – and within the university’s tri-fold identity as liberal arts, Catholic, and women-centered.
• A strong understanding of the Catholic Mission, the charism of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet and the ability to integrate these into the vision and goals of campus ministry.
• Strong informal teaching skills and understanding of student development.
• Ability to be an effective mentor to student workers.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• Effective planning and budgeting skills; ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
• Effective recruitment, organizing, networking, and collaborative working skills.
• The successful candidate must have the ability to respond respectfully, sensitively and effectively to people of all faith traditions, cultures and ethnicities in a manner that affirms the worth and preserves the dignity of individuals, families and communities.
• Additionally, candidates must be Roman Catholic.
