Summary

The Campus Ministry Associate is a ten-month placement, which offers a unique opportunity to a person who is interested in gaining experience in the work of college campus ministry. The position is for one academic year. The Campus Ministry Associate will aid the Campus Ministry staff in the implementation of various programs, including community service programs, social justice programs, retreats, immersion programs, liturgical ministries and events, and/or small faith-sharing groups. Additionally, he or she will live in community with other Campus Ministry Associates in housing provided by the university.

Duties

• Manage and facilitate, under the supervision of the Associate Director, ongoing service and social justice programming.
• Facilitate and travel with students on service and social justice immersion trips (e.g. Urban Challenge, the Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice, Spring Break Appalachian Experience, other domestic or international immersion programs, etc.). Facilitate post-immersion reflection and follow-up activities.
• Assist with the facilitation of retreat programs, faith development opportunities, R.C.I.A. (The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults), outreach activities, and liturgical ministries and events.
• Advise a student group interested in promoting a consistent ethic of life (would include a service component and attendance at the annual March for Life in Washington, DC).
• Actively promote and encourage participation in Campus Ministry programs and activities through outreach to students.
• Provide ministerial presence on campus by living in university housing.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree required along with some participation experience (as a college student) with campus ministry programs, community service, and/or immersion programs.
• Ability to effectively assist with programs aimed at promoting faith and justice awareness among college students.
• Ability to effectively communicate to students a “faith that does justice” that is consistent with Catholic Social Teaching and Ignatian spirituality.
