This position is responsible for the shared pastoral and spiritual leadership and service of the university community. In addition, the position is responsible for the development, planning, publicity, facilitation and assessment of retreats and collaborative mentoring of student interns. The position is full-time, 10-month (.83; September 1-June 30) and reports to the Associate Director of Campus Ministry. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2014.

 

I. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

    Provide pastoral leadership, service, and outreach to the SCU community

    Collaborate with the Campus Ministry team in planning, implementing and assessing services, programs, events and offerings.

    Design, develop, and facilitate department's major retreat offerings

    Supervise and mentor student interns and retreat leaders

    Oversee administrative functions related to position

 

II. Specific Responsibilities

 

    Provide pastoral leadership, service, and outreach to the SCU community.  

        Provide pastoral counseling to students, regardless of religious affiliation

        Participate in and help to lead Campus Ministry-sponsored campus events and programs

    Collaborate with the Campus Ministry team in planning, implementing and assessing services, programs, events and offerings

        Participate in weekly staff meetings

        Engage in discussions regarding the vision and priorities of Campus Ministry

        Participate in professional development 

    Design, plan, and facilitate department's major retreat offerings

        Develop the calendar of retreats as well as a schedule of each retreat

        Prepare the components of each retreat (prayer services, talks, liturgies) and coordinate the student/staff leaders in charge of these components

        Collaborate with Director of Resident Ministry to plan and direct the DISCOVER retreat on vocation discernment

        Collaborate with fellow Campus Ministers and other local ministers who serve as spiritual directors on retreats

        Create materials for publicity, registration, and evaluation for all the retreat offerings (Search, DISCOVER, Silent Directed Retreat, Ignatian Directed Retreat)

        Manage full oversight of the logistical details for each retreat, including lodging, registration information, use of facilities, payment, food and other supplies

        Communicate schedule and other information to participants before each retreat

        Serve as a resource for colleagues and students in the planning of other retreats 

    Supervise and mentor student interns and retreat leaders

        Recruit, hire and train student interns and retreat leaders

        Direct formational opportunities for retreat leaders and interns, including the Search Crew Retreats

    Oversee administrative functions related to position

        Manage assessment of programs and events

        Maintain budget accountability for area

        Oversee communication efforts for area

        Represent Campus Ministry on various university committees and/or at campus events

 

III. Qualifications

 

    Masters of Divinity or other Master-level degree in theologically fluent area, required

    One year of work experience in a pastoral setting, required

    Other preferred skills and background:

        Experience with young adult spiritual formation

        Pastoral and retreat leadership experience

        Project or event planning experience

        Excellent communication skills, including proficiency in relevant technology

        Availability for regular evening and weekend work

        Competency in multicultural, ecumenical and interfaith issues

        Knowledge of Ignatian Spirituality and the tradition of Jesuit education
