Duties & Responsibilities:

Interreligious Coordinator facilitates programs and initiatives for Georgetown’s Office of Campus Ministry, and is the primary program staff for Georgetown’s Jewish and Muslim chaplains. In this role the Coordinator assists in developing and implementing programs and services to promote engagement in Jewish and Muslim life on campus. S/he works with the Managing Director to cultivate interfaith engagement through programs and initiatives on campus, and manages special projects for the department. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Cultivate and promote both Jewish life and Muslim life on campus:

  • Assist Director of Jewish Life and Director of Muslim Life in developing new programs and initiatives
  • Manage all planning and logistics for programs, events and religious services
  • Handle correspondence with program participants, speakers and student leaders
  • Coordinate arrangements for food, registration, space, technology, supplies, etc.
  • Develop and execute publicity strategies for events, including weekly newsletters and social media
  • Recruit and maintain student participation and leadership
  • Staff all programs and events unless other arrangements are made with the Director
  • Manage evaluation and assessment process for events
  • Maintain contact database of constituencies
  • Assist director with administrative matters as required
  • Oversee student workers and interns, including coordination of hiring and evaluation

Foster and support interfaith engagement on campus

  • Manage all planning and logistics for department interfaith programs, events and religious services, to include: Interfaith Thanksgiving Banquet, Challenging Text Series, Religious Services Open House Series, etc.
  • Coordinate department’s selective engagement in interfaith programs and initiatives elsewhere in the university, including: Berkeley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs; Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, White House Interfaith and Community Service Campus Challenge, Social Justice Send-Off, etc.
  • Develop new interfaith programs and initiatives in consultation with chaplains and Managing Director

Coordinate special department projects and provides collaborative support to colleagues

  • Oversee department-wide projects and initiatives assigned by the Managing Director
  • Support other department events and services as needed
  • Step in for Assistant Director of Ecumenical Christian Life or Assistant Director for Student Engagement when needed
  • Attend staff meetings and events, and represent Campus Ministry on university committees as assigned by Managing Director

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree - coursework in religious studies highly desirable.

At least two years of administrative and programmatic experience, strong interpersonal skills and the ability to foster a collaborative environment, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a strong attention to detail.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word and basic Excel; skill in web content and social media management.

Ability to work well and collaboratively with colleagues of other faith traditions, to take initiative on projects involving several staff members or chaplaincies, and to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Personal experience with Jewish and/or Muslim communities highly desirable.

Availability and willingness to regularly attend Friday evening Shabbath services and High Holiday services, as well as to work evening and weekend events as needed.
