Communications and Outreach Coordinator

Duties & Responsibilities:

Communications and Outreach Coordinator promotes the work of Campus Ministry in its mission to care for all students and equip them to lead lives of meaning and purpose at Georgetown and beyond. S/he works closely with chaplains and staff to develop effective strategies for reaching individuals with information about programs and initiatives, and promoting a broader awareness of Campus Ministry’s resources among all students. Duties include, but are not limited to:

Department Communications

  • Manage all department communication platforms, including access and training
  • Develop and manage department graphic identity and style manual
  • Oversee electronic/new media strategy, including methods for evaluation
  • Maintain all communication platforms and accounts
  • Collaboratively manage and coordinate creation of web-content; maintain protocols to keep website up to date.
  • Work with university technology and communications staff to ensure ongoing improvement of website technology
  • Manage creation, production and distribution of print publications (brochures, mailings, fliers, posters, banners, etc.)
  • Direct creation and selection of photography
  • Create and coordinate production schedules and maintain relationships with designers, photographers and printers; evaluate and negotiate contracts
  • Develop and implement impact metrics
  • Maintain media archives
  • Hire, train and supervise team of students capable of assisting with design, website maintenance, event photography, service bulletin preparation, etc.

Consult on Marketing and Outreach Strategy for Department Units

  • Provide consultation and assistance to chaplains, program staff and student organizations in developing effective marketing strategies appropriate to various programs/events/initiatives, in collaboration with other program staff
  • Establish workflows with accountabilities for timely collaborator contributions
  • Maintain design and production vendor agreements and assist colleagues in contracting services.
  • Provide student worker support as needed
  • Evaluate and assess strategies and implementation

Manage Marketing for Major Programs

  • Develop and manage marketing strategy for large programs/events/initiatives as assigned by Managing Director, working closely with chaplains and program staff on implementation.
  • Establish workflows with accountabilities for timely collaborator contributions
  • Work with design and production vendors to produce high quality materials
  • Evaluate and assess strategies and implementation

Training and Development

  • Update staff on best practices and new developments for effective communications and outreach
  • Provide training as required for technology
  • Maintain relationships with Communications and University Information Services representatives and serve on university Social Media Working Group
  • Experiment and innovate with new communications and outreach strategies; help CM avoid a persistent “me too” strategy
  • Provide timely and constructive feedback where needed

Outreach Strategy

  • Conduct “market” research to inform approach
  • Identify under-reached constituencies and work with chaplains and the Managing Director to develop strategic response
  • Work with Assistant Director for Student Engagement to maintain SalesForce database

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree - coursework in marketing, communications, public or media relations, journalism or related field preferred.

At least one year, though preferably two years, of marketing, communications, media or public relations experience; must exhibit superior written/editing and oral communication skills; must be able to think creatively and strategically; must be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work collaboratively; demonstrated commitment to the promotion of religious and spiritual life highly desired.

Competency with Mac operating systems, website management including HTML/CSS, Microsoft Office, Adobe CS, and a sophisticated understanding of social media trends and tools. Experience with SalesForce a plus.

Ability to work collegially in a religiously pluralistic context.

Availability and willingness to work evenings and/or weekends for special events as needed.
