The Associate Director of Residential Ministry leads, manages and supervises Residential Ministry in the undergraduate residence halls.  S/he is a Chaplain-in-Residence, manages administrative and operational needs for residential ministry, and helps promote the Catholic, Jesuit mission of the University.  In this residential, live-in (apartment or townhouse) position, she or he or he works very closely with colleagues in Campus Ministry, Student Affairs, and Residential Services. 

The Associate Director of Residential Ministry upholds the values and ideals of Georgetown University as a Catholic, Jesuit University and helps promote Georgetown’s Catholic, Jesuit mission, and is committed to promoting Jesuit mission and identity. 

Duties:

  • Residential Ministry: Plans and leads all residential ministry orientation, training and in-service meetings; develops, strengthens, and oversees Chaplain-in-Residence (CIR) peer supervision; serves as the Campus Ministry representative on the University’s Case Management/Safety Net team; oversees Chaplains-on-call; and engages CIRs, JIRs, Campus Ministry and Student Affairs colleagues regarding vision for the ministry in the context of Georgetown University’s Catholic, Jesuit mission and identity. 
  • Chaplains-in-Residence Management (approximately twenty professional ministers of varied faith traditions and backgrounds): Serves as the CIRs’ primary point person for support, guidance, and supervision – for example, ensures that CIRs’ family members living in residence (where applicable) are upholding standards of hospitality and professionalism in line with the mission of Residential Ministry; meets 1-1 with each CIR regularly throughout the year; conducts mid-year and end-of-year evaluations; engages student evaluations and 360 reviews; and makes decisions regarding annual renewal of CIR volunteer agreements.  The Associate Director of Residential Ministry also manages the annual recruitment, applications, interviews, selection, and transitions of Chaplains-in-Residence, including managing on-boarding/off-boarding, and housing and facilities needs.
  • University CIR: Serves students and residential education colleagues in his/her residence area through outreach, programming and pastoral support.  S/he also serves as a Chaplain-on-call for the University.
  • Administration: Manages administrative and operational needs for residential ministry – for example, maintains meeting, event and on-call calendars; ensures that website and printed materials are current; oversees all facilities and technology work requests related to CIR/JIR residences; and manages the programmatic budget.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master of Divinity, Master of Pastoral Studies, Master of Social Work, or equivalent combination of graduate theological/ministerial/counseling education, training and experience.
  • Clinical Pastoral Education, supervised ministry, or similar education, training and experience.
  • Membership in good standing in his/her faith tradition.
  • At least four years relevant experience in ministerial work and supervision with strong interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with ministry environment(s) and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues of other faith traditions.
  • Familiarity with undergraduate student residential life.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a large staff of CIR volunteers, manage projects effectively, take initiative, successfully juggle demands, set priorities, and adapt quickly.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel, email and web content. management, basic design layout and social media.
  • Willingness, availability, and flexibility for significant participation in evening and weekend events.
