Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies or divinity studies Preferred: • Master’s degree in any of the above fields • Experience in teaching religious studies on the high school level • Pastoral training and/or experience
Canisius High School, an all-male, Jesuit, Catholic high school in Buffalo, NY, seeks a full-time teacher for the Religious Studies Department. The ideal candidate has a graduate degree in theology, some high school teaching experience, and a willingness to promote all areas of Jesuit education. The successful applicant must have a sense of the mission of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits) and the Catholic Church.
Responsibilities: (The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive. Others may be assigned, subject to reasonable accommodations.)
§ Teach five sections of Religious Studies courses during the school year.
§ Work collaboratively with the department in the development of curriculum.
§ Participate in departmental and school-wide professional development initiatives (examples: technology training, Ignatian education workshops).
§ Participate in the extracurricular life of the students and the school.
§ Teach and lead students in accordance with Jesuit educational principles and the mission of Canisius High School.
Act as a personal example of the “Grad at Grad” qualities to which we call our students: open to growth, intellectually competent, loving, religious, and committed to promoting justice.
