Job Summary:

 Catholic Relief Services (CRS) is the official international humanitarian organization of the U.S. Catholic community, working in over 90 countries around the world. In that capacity, CRS also educates and mobilizes the Catholic community in the United States to act on their faith in solidarity with the global poor and vulnerable. Critical to these efforts is CRS’ engagement with Catholic youth audiences. CRS seeks to be seen by the Catholic Youth Ministry Community and Catholic Educators as a go-to agency for resources about the global social mission of the Church. This position serves as key resource person for the CRS U.S. Operations division by producing, editing, and/or coordinating the production of innovative print, visual and online resources to inform and mobilize Catholic youth audiences in the U.S. about CRS’ short term emergency response and longer term global development work, and their relationship to Catholic social teaching. Resource development and management will focus on the CRS Global Neighbor Schools program, CRS Food Fast and the merger and maintenance of the CRS Education/iNeighbor web portal. In addition, the Program Officer is responsible for implementing outreach to, and building capacity in, Catholic education structures for increased engagement with CRS. Specifically, the Program Officer builds relationships at the national level with organizations that serve Catholic youth through the fields of Catholic education / academia, faith formation, and youth and young adult ministry; provides capacity-building to partners and constituents for whom the Program Officer is responsible; and provides high level support to CRS regional staff across the United States. The Program Officer will also work closely with various U.S. Operations cross divisional teams, including Youth Outreach, Diversity Outreach, and others as appropriate to ensure that CRS’ education programs are included in the work of these groups, and to ensure that program offerings are relevant and useful to CRS’ target audiences in the U.S.

Job Responsibilities and Tasks:

Program Development

Working under the direction of the Relationship Manager/ Youth & Religious Education, the Program Officer will collaborate with U.S. Operations Youth Cross Divisional Team and the Resource Development Committee on materials development, website development, marketing, and analysis for CRS Global Neighbor Schools, CRS Food Fast, and CRS Education / iNeighbor website.

Participate in the development of a growth strategy for CRS Global Neighbor Schools program that includes input and collaboration with internal staff (i.e., the Youth / Education team and other internal CRS departments, CRS U.S. regional staff, etc.) and external partners (i.e., national organizations, Catholic education leaders and organizations, religious orders, etc.)

Participate in the development of a growth strategy for Food Fast, CRS’ hunger awareness program for youth, strengthening the materials development and production and integrating website development, marketing, and analysis.

Coordinate strategy for engaging youth through social media, technology, and other interactive communication models

Marketing and Promotion

Collaborate with CRS Marketing and Communications Units to develop and implement annual marketing, media and outreach strategy for CRS youth and education programs and within CRS’ national youth ministry and education partners.

Collaborate with U.S. Operations Regional Offices to implement regional promotion of CRS youth and education programs.

Agency Representation

Work with national relationships with organizations serving Catholic education as appropriate regarding program planning, logistics and marketing strategy to promote programs. National partners consist of but are not limited to the National Catholic Education Association, Center of Concern’s Education for Justice Project, University of Notre Dame’s ACE program, the Christian Brothers Conference and the education departments of religious orders.

Represent CRS through workshops and trainings for interested school and education contacts around Catholic Social Teaching, global solidarity and mission-based service learning and curriculum development, including but not limited to key leaders in U.S. dioceses (i.e. Diocesan Directors, Catholic School Superintendents) and Catholic School Personnel (i.e., administration and faculty).

Support CRS regional staff by assisting with staff development and training, workshops and public speaking events, capacity building and other requested assistance

Coordinate Catholic Relief Services events and booth at several national conventions and professional conferences on Catholic education, faith formation, social ministry and other related areas.

Consult with the Youth cross-divisional team and brief U.S. Operations senior management on potential development of education materials and programs.

Management

Coordinate external consultants who assist with development of resources

Administer program budgets, which includes budget maintenance & forecasting

Collaborate with CRS staff on management of overseas travel experience that provides immersion experience in the work of CRS for Catholic education leaders.

 

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in education, theology, or related field. Master’s degree preferred.

Minimum 5-7 years of experience in Catholic education, campus ministry, youth ministry, communications or related area.

Exceptional writing, editing and organizational skills (Writing samples will be required.)

Strong background in curriculum and educational materials development.

Experience collaborating with web and graphic designers and publishing to the web preferred.

Proficient in operating personal computers and Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
