Our Dual Degree Programs
the benefits of earning two masters degrees
The School of Theology and Ministry has partnered with four other BC schools to offer dual degree programs. Students can earn a Master of Arts in either Theology and Ministry (academic year) or Pastoral Minstry (summer only) along with a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.), Master of Arts in Mental Health Counseling (M.A.), Master of Business Administration (M.B.A.), or a Master of Science in Nursing (M.S.).
The standard dual degree curriculum combines a 35 credit M.A. in Theology and Ministry or Pastoral Ministry with a 48 or 60 credit degree from one of the other schools. An average of 12 credits taken is applied to both degrees, which allows students to finish in three years. The added skill-set and flexibility of a dual degree program gives graduates the academic competency to work in several different fields. Some students enter fields specific to one degree, but are able to incorporate elements of the other to enhance their work.
The dual degree program is ideal for students who have experience and passion in both fields, and want to incorporate both into their future jobs and ministries. From a theological and ministerial vantage point, the dual degree program prepares students well for a variety of ministries in the church including campus ministry, parish ministry, and hospital chaplaincy. However, given the many different requirements of the program, the degree does not ideally prepare students to teach theology at a high school level or for continued studies at the doctoral level.
We hope that you will continue to explore the exciting benefits and possibilities of the dual degree programs. The links below take you to each program site where you will learn more about the specifics of each program.
