This is my first year as an undergraduate research assistant. I am working with Katherine Gregory on her research of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants by collecting and documenting data.

Christine is in her first year as an undergraduate research fellow working with Professor Ellen Mahoney. Currently she is working on two projects: one on the preparedness of caregivers of family members with dementia, and one on the sustainability of veteran-directed home based services.

Annie is in her second year as an undergraduate research fellow. She is working with Sister Callista Roy to publish their work on hidden pitfalls for multisite studies demonstrated in a study of cognitive recovery of patients with mild head injury.

This school year, I have the opportunity to work with Dr. Holly Fontenot on her research about the human papillomavirus vaccine. The research specifically explores the various factors that contribute to or hinder an individual's completion of the HPV vaccine series in different parts of the United States. Another area of exploration is the role that nursing personnel play, if any, in the promotion of completing the HPV vaccine series. Lastly, the research also explores the lack of HPV education and vaccination in men.

Alexis is a junior participating in her first year as an undergraduate research fellow. She is currently working with Dean Susan Gennaro in an ongoing research study exploring possible causes of pre-term labor for minority women.

I will be working with professor Rosanna DeMarco focusing on the the responses and care of HIV/AIDs patients in Vietnam. My project will focus on the effects of stigma and the practice of palliative care.

Melanie Chang '13
Melanie is in her third year as an undergraduate research fellow working with Dr. Stacey Barone. Last May, they launched a comparative study assessing Boston College freshmen and senior nursing students' attitudes and knowledge towards working with the older adult. They are currently analyzing the collected data assessing the impact of the nursing curricula on students' attitudes and knowledge.

Grace is a first year undergraduate research fellow. As a part of Dr. Danny Willis' collaborative team, she will be exploring the barriers to healing from childhood maltreatment in the male population.

Taylor is in her first year working as an undergraduate research fellow with Dr. Joyce Edmonds on research related to maternal health and health seeking behavior. Taylor is developing a descriptive study focused on the attitudes and beliefs of undergraduate college women towards medical intervention during the labor and delivery process and mode of delivery.

Katie is currently working with Dr. Susan Kelly-Weeder on a study dealing with the co-occurrence of alcohol use and disordered eating behaviors on college campuses.

Angiolina Franceschelli '12
Angiolina is in her second year working with Professor Pamela Grace on research in various areas of nursing ethics. She is currently helping Dr. Grace in literature searches involving the ethical issues and situations that advanced practice nurses specializing in Women's health confront. She has also worked on research involving the intersection of nursing ethics, confidentiality, and electronic media among advanced practice nurses.

Brooke is in her first year working as an undergraduate research fellow. She is working with Dr. Susan Kelly-Weeder in her research regarding the development of a web-based intervention for the co-occurrence of alcohol use and disordered eating behaviors on college campuses.

Megan is in her first year as an undergraduate research fellow. She is working with Dr. Katherine Hutchinson on researching Jamaican mothers' influences of adolescent girls' sexual beliefs and behaviors.

Hannah Kapsak is in her third year as an Undergraduate Research Fellow. She works with Dr. Ellen Mahoney researching the preparedness of representatives of individuals with dementia, and the sustainability of VA Community-Based services.

Shelby is in her second year as an undergraduate research fellow. She continues her work with Dr. Danny Willis and his team on a new research project that aims to examine adult male survivors of child maltreatment’s barriers to healing. The information is intended to aid in the development of a healing intervention for this population.

I am in my first year as an undergraduate research fellow, working with Dr. Nancy Allen on her research related to assessment and care of middle-aged women with type 2 diabetes with a newly developed instrument as well as another study related to forming focus groups of Vietnamese individuals with diabetes to further develop and test the instrument.

Colleen is in her second year as an undergraduate research fellow. She is collaborating with Dr. Judith Vessey in analyzing factual news data to explore bullying and teasing as antecedents to teenage suicide.

Jen is a senior nursing student who is working for the first time as a research fellow. She is working with Lichuan Ye to explore how sleep deprivation in patients affects patients' perceptions of healing and during their hospital stay, and how sleep quality in hospitals can be improved.

Kathleen Marion '13
Working under the head of Melissa Sutherland, I have been assisting to develop ways in which we can improve nursing knowledge about how to address intimate partner violence within a healthcare setting. I have worked to address the assessment process of determining violence within the home, identify proper screening techniques, enhance the ability to provide tools for proper referrals and detect the health consequences of abuse.

Catherine is a first semester undergraduate research fellow working with Dr. Dorothy Jones. Research activities focus on exploring the literature associated with the concept of power from the perspective of nursing and other disciplines. Catherine will use findings from her review of the literature to inform ongoing research on workforce evaluation and nurse's perception of the professional practice environment.

Stephanie is in her second year as an undergraduate research fellow working in collaboration with Dr. Jane Flanagan. She is currently exploring the high risk incidence of chronic co-morbid conditions in women on hormone-based therapy to treat breast cancer and developing targeted interventions aimed at improving healing in this population.

Tori is working with Dr. Judith Shindul-Rothschild in her first semester as an undergraduate research fellow on data analysis and comparison of expenses from Massachusetts healthcare institutions and their effect on consumer healthcare and insurance costs.

Ashley is currently in her first year as an Undergraduate Research Fellow. She is assisting Dr. Lichuan Ye with research on several studies focusing on sleep in hospitalized patients and sleep and delirium in ICU patients.

Siobhan Tellez is entering her second year as an UGRF for Nancy Allen. This year, in addition to continuing work (on a project geared to identifying barriers to adherence to a Type 2 Diabetes nutrition and exercise regimen), she and fellow UGRF Mitch Li will work on developing education materials for aiding adolescents with Type 1 Diabetes make the transition from high school to college life.

Stephanie is in her second year working as an undergraduate research fellow with Dr. June Horowitz in her research project involving the efficacy of designed nursing interventions on mothers diagnosed with postpartum depression determined by the improvement of maternal-infant relational effectiveness, infant responsiveness to caregiver, and postpartum depression symptom severity.
