Conversational Medical Spanish I
bc continuing education
This course is for those who have little or no previous experience learning Spanish. In this course, students learn not only the practical language skills used in first aid and emergency situations in hospitals and doctor's offices, but also gain an appreciation for the Latin American culture through readings on such subjects as birthing trends, women's health, vaccination/immunization in children, and diabetes in Hispanic populations. General focus is conversational Spanish based on learning the present tense of regular and irregular verbs, stem changing verbs, numbers, telling time, some prepositions, verbs ser and estar, present progressive tense, and other topics of grammar.
Upon completing the course, you are able to facilitate a patient's movement from the hospital to the community setting. Conversational Spanish rather than grammar is emphasized. (A basic understanding of Spanish is necessary.)
