Undergraduates Publish an Article on Worker Safety
connell school news
This full page article is the result of the work Vanessa Lara and
Kristen LeClair did in their stateside Community Health Clinical this
past winter. Vanessa and Kristen both worked with the State DPH on a
health promotion campaign to get the word out about worker safety to
Spanish-speaking residents of Massachusetts. Spanish-speaking workers
have the highest work-related death rate in Massachusetts and the
nation.
Vanessa and Kristen had to cull through enormous amounts of data as
they researched their article. After writing intial drafts in English,
the authors then edited the article with members of DPH's Occupational
Health Surveillance division as well as with their Boston College
clinical faculty. Once all edits were finalized, the pair then
translated their work into Spanish for submittion to 4 different
Spanish newspapers, including La Semana.
