connell school global experience
Connell School students strengthen their community nursing and Spanish language skills during a semester in Ecuador that includes classes, clinical assignments, and living with host families.
A popular destination for nursing students is Universidad San Francisco de Quito. Here students experience the beauty and history of Quito while they study with students from around the world at a modern university. Courses are taken in Spanish and English and fulfill a wide range of requirements for the degree and for a minor in Hispanic Studies. Beginning in 2012, nursing students may complete their community health nursing clinical course in Ecuador as they provide rural health care under the supervision of both Boston College and USFQ faculty.
A summer course in Quito offers an additional option for Boston College students. Global Health Perspectives involves an in depth study of global health policy and an opportunity to visit health care settings throughout Ecuador. The course is taught in English although there are multiple opportunities for Spanish language and cultural immersion. Students also gain experience through volunteer opportunities and travel in this vastly diverse country.
The trip to Ecuador is a part of the University study abroad program. Eligible students must meet the requirements established by the Office of International Programs. Contact Associate Dean of Undergraduate Program Catherine Read with questions.
