America's College Town
A quintessential college town, greater Boston draws students from around the globe to 75 colleges and universities in and around the city. An estimated one in four residents of the city proper are students. They give life to this historic city as they learn, share ideas, and launch their careers.
Known as "The Hub," Boston is a two-hour drive from the breathtaking Cape Cod National Seashore beaches, and two hours by car from ski and summer resorts in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
The city itself transforms with each season, and students may find themselves picnicking on the Esplanade in downtown Boston in the spring, then watching foliage change colors on Beacon Hill in the fall, or skating on the Boston Frog Pond a few months later.
Boston's diverse neighborhoods offer a wide array of affordable housing options. Students live in the trendy student neighborhoods of Allston, Brighton, and Brookline, and throughout the downtown Boston area. Boston College's Office of Residential Life maintains extensive lists of available rentals, students looking for roommates, and helpful local realtors. Residential Life also hosts a housing fair each year in June. For more information please visit the Office of Off-Campus Housing.
A Real Campus Community
The Boston College community is dedicated to promoting social justice both in and outside the classroom. In keeping with the mission, the University sponsors dozens of volunteer organizations on campus, and arranges volunteer opportunities for students throughout the Boston area. Students can participate in after-school mentoring programs, fundraising activities, and initiatives that work towards social change.
