The Urban Catholic Teachers Corps (UCTC) is a two-year service program for teachers who wish to gain experience teaching in urban Catholic schools in the Boston area and who want to live in a community with other teachers.

Now in its tenth year, UCTC offers professional experience and spiritual development to young teachers interested in Catholic education, while providing the Archdiocese of Boston with a source of trained educators committed to urban Catholic schools. Funded by the Archdiocese as well as Boston College Trustee Thomas Flatley and Trustee Associate Peter Lynch, the program recruits from a pool of newly certified teachers that includes graduates from BC and other institutions.

The UCTC is founded on four cornerstones

Teaching as Service
Members teach full-time in urban Catholic elementary or secondary schools in and around Boston

Simple Living
Accommodations are comfortable, yet simple, consisting of a small private bedroom, a shared study, and shared bathroom and community living spaces.

Community Life
Twelve members live together in a community residence where they strive to become a caring community through sharing household responsibilities

Spirituality
Weekly spirituality gatherings, in addition to three retreats annually, offer members the opportunity to grow in relationship with God and one another
