The College Bound Program brings the resources of the Lynch School of Education to work with urban students and their families to gain access to, achieve success in, and graduate from, quality post-secondary schools.

College Bound students come from 10 Boston neighborhoods and are enrolled in:

  • Media and Communications Technology High School
  • Urban Science Academy at West Roxbury Education Complex
  • Brighton High School

Students represent diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds. Approximately 40 students participate in the program annually.

College Bound Program sessions are held on two Saturdays a month at Boston College, or at the participating high schools. All sessions are taught via a co-teaching and collaborative instructional model with 2 graduate instructors per class session. Additionally, some participating high school students elect to come to Boston College after school Monday – Friday to participate in a select number of undergraduate and graduate courses, as well as to receive academic tutoring in subject areas of need.

College Bound students are accepted to the program based on their academic drive, leadership qualities, and commitment toward social justice in their schools and local communities.

College Bound staff and BC personnel work closely with students and their families in conjunction with the College Bound Liaisons at their respective schools to guide them through the College admissions process, and in seeking a variety of financial assistance.

College Bound students are engaged in the Innovative Technology Experiences for Students and Teachers (ITEST) grant funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) titled; "IT and College Pathways through Application of Technology to Explore Urban Ecological Challenges." The grant funds innovative summer programs that give students hands on research experience in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
