Stand Up, Speak Out Student Leadership Conference
Stand Up, Speak Out is a student leadership conference for students of Catholic middle schools that is held at both Boston College and Assumption College each January. The selected students participate in a series of workshops throughout the day that are led by Boston College students and focus on topics such as team building and creating a value system. At the end of the day, the students from each school come together and create an action plan to promote change within their school. Past school action plans have included creating a new school library, creating an environmental club, and offering healthier options in the cafeteria. While the students are attending the workshops, the teachers and principals from each school also attend a professional development workshop led by the Roche Center for Catholic Education. All of the school teams are invited to join together again in May at the Archdiocese of Boston Catholic Schools Office to present their action plans, gather with their new peers for lunch, and attend mass at the Pastoral Center.
