My research interests grew out of ten years of professional experience as a student affairs administrator before becoming a faculty member. I interacted with a wide variety of students, and these interactions helped me focus my research interests on the college experience, from who goes to college to the institutional environments that promote student success. I also have a particular interest in the experiences of students traditionally underrepresented in higher education environments and their particular hurdles to success. As a result of these interests, my work can be separated into three strands: The College Enrollment Pipeline; Student Learning during College; and College Student Success.

In teaching primarily Master’s students who plan to be student affairs administrators upon degree completion, I work to connect theory and practice in my teaching, so that students are well prepared to be practitioners in many types of institutions.
