The Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degrees are granted for distinction attained in a special field of concentration and demonstrated ability to modify or enlarge a significant subject in a dissertation based upon original research.
The Ph.D. is granted in the Lynch School in the following areas:
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Higher Education
- Counseling Psychology
- Applied Developmental and Educational Psychology
- Educational Research, Measurement, and Evaluation
The Ed.D. is granted in the Lynch School in the following area:
Upon admission to a doctoral program, the student will be assigned an academic advisor. The doctoral program of study should be designed by students in consultation with their advisors during the first or second semester of course work. A formal program of study must be filed with the student's advisor.
In addition to course work, doctoral students in the Lynch School complete comprehensive exams to qualify for doctoral candidacy and complete a doctoral dissertation.
