Faculty and Student Receive AERA Oustanding Research Award

Assistant Professor Paul Poteat, Associate Professor Laura O'Dwyer, and Ethan Mereish, Ph.D. '14, have been selected for the Outstanding Research award by Division E of the American Educational Research Association (Counseling and Human Development) for a paper they co-published in 2012. The paper, titled Changes in how students use and are called homophobic epithets over time: Patterns predicted by gender, bullying and victimization status was unanimously selected by the seven-member committee based in its significance, the quality of the research, and the quality of the writing.

The American Educational Research Association (AERA), founded in 1916, is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and evaluation and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.
