Wednesday, March 20, 2013
12-1 pm

East Wing Room 115A

The second in a series designed to provide an introduction to law teaching for current students, featuring alumni in teaching positions. The purpose of these is three-fold: (1) to expose students to law-teaching as a career path before they graduate, (2) to offer concrete suggestions to students at the early stages of contemplating that path on steps they can take in law school with respect to selecting classes, publishing, and developing a research agenda, (3) connect current students to BC alumni-in-teaching for mentorship and to show students various possibilities and paths to law teaching that BC alumni have successfully pursued. To that end, this session will present a diverse set of BC alumni who are teaching in academic, clinical, and other capacities and who have pursued diverse paths to getting there (clerkships, lateral moves, practice, LLMs, adjunct-to-full time, etc.). Part of the conversation will include insights into how to successfully prepare for a job, and what the trends are of school hiring. We will discuss what students can do now to begin exploring law teaching, including paper-writing and clinical work, post law-school fellowships, legal practice, publications, clerkships, and joint degrees. The target audience includes all students, beginning with 1Ls.

All current students, area alumni, and others interested in learning about law teaching were welcome to come and connect with students and BCLS alumni-in-law teaching.
