Maier to Give Talk on James Madison

The Boston College Legal History Roundtable and the Clough Center are co-sponsoring a talk by Professor Pauline Maier of M.I.T. The topic of the discussion is "James Madison Reconsidered: The Significance of the Ratification Debates of 1787-88 for Interpreting the Constitution," and will take place on the law school campus in East Wing room 200 from 4:30-6pm on Wednesday, February 9th.
Professor Maier is the William R. Kenan, Jr. Professor of American History at MIT. Her new book, Ratification: The People Debate the Constitution. 1787-1788 (2010) has been reviewed as “delightful and engrossing” (NY Times), “a remarkably patient, clear-eyed, and deeply balanced account” (Jack Rakove), “with style, wit, and incomparable mastery” (Joseph Ellis), and “the definitive account” (Richard Beeman).
Professor Maier’s previous book, American Scripture: Making the Declaration of Independence, was on the New York Times Book Review editors "Choice" list of the best 11 books of 1997 and a finalist in General Nonfiction for the National Book Critics' Circle Award.
