Newton, MA – BC Law Library hosted a panel discussion on Real World Research on March 29. Panel participants Susan C. Sullivan, First Circuit Librarian, Jared Wood, associate at Rosenberg, Freedman & Goldstein, Suzanne Reed Kidder, Law Librarian at McDermott, Will & Emery’s Boston office, and Eleanor Williams, associate at Choate Hall & Stewart, offered law students a view of legal research from the practitioner’s perspective.

Students were reminded of the importance of expanding their research skills to embrace multiple online vendor platforms and to utilize print sources for cost-effective searching. All panelists emphasized the need to use research experts such as law librarians and to seek assistance from vendor service representatives to perform efficient research projects.

The Real World Research panel was offered in response to student comments on a recent Law Library-sponsored survey seeking student feedback on desired services and programs. In addition, the BC Law Library will be offering law students a series of hands-on, practical research training sessions during lunchtime in early April to prepare them for practice. The training schedule is posted on the Law Library’s website: http://www.bc.edu/content/dam/files/schools/law_sites/library/pdf/home_page_items/pdf/Lunchtime_sessions.pdf
