BP Oil Spill Damages Negotiators to Speak at BC Law

Newton, MA--Boston College Law School welcomes Rachel Jacobson and Brian Israel to the school on On Monday November 21, as guests of BC Law's Natural Resources Remedies course, taught by Mark Barash, U.S. Dept. of the Interior. Jacobson, lead attorney for the Federal Government, and Israel, lead attorney for BP, will be talking about law, policy, and Natural Resource Damages financial liability arising from the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The event will take place in Stuart 308 from 5-7 pm.
Brian Israel is a partner in Arnold & Porter LLP's Washington DC, office and is also the lead counsel for BP for NRD matters with respect to the Deepwater Spill. He specializes in environmental litigation and counseling and worked previously as a DOJ environmental enforcement attorney. His counseling practice focuses on environmental issues in large corporate transactions, brownfields redevelopment and environmental management systems. Mr. Israel represents corporations in matters involving contaminated properties, including toxic tort lawsuits and Natural Resource Damages (NRD) claims.
Rachel Jacobson is the Acting Assistant Secretary for Fish and Wildlife Parks. She served as Principal Deputy Solicitor 2009-2010. She has also helped lead DOI’s work on natural resource damage issues related to the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, including the negotiation of a $1 billion early restoration agreement with BP. She developed significant expertise in environmental law with a specialty in natural resource damages at the Department of Justice, where she has over 23 years of career federal service.
