Grimes Moot Court Winners
4/26/05--In a spirited argument before an overflow crowd at the Grimes Moot
Court Final Round, held on April 20, the team of Heather Castillo and Patrick
Halasz prevailed over the team of Tracy Hresko and Joshua Marmol. Ms Castillo
was selected best oralist. The judges complimented both teams for the quality
of the arguments. The presiding bench consisted of Judge Cabranes from the Second
Circuit, Judge Hochberg from the United States District Court in New Jersey,
and Justice Corrigan from the Supreme Court of Michigan.
Other awards were announced after the arguments. The award for best oralist
in the overall Competition went to Andrea Perry. The best brief award went to
the team of David Zetlin-Jones and Nate Winegar, with the Runner-up award going
to James McGuinness and Andrew Vacisek.
The Grimes Moot Court is the Law School’s internal moot court competition.
This year’s question involved whether a City violates the Establishment
Clause of the First Amendment when it erects a Ten Commandments monument in
a public park.
