Ross Gelbspan at BC Law April 21

4/20/05--As part of Boston College Law School’s Earth Week celebration, the Environmental Law Society welcomes Ross Gelbspan to campus on Thursday, April 21.

Ross Gelbspan is a leading voice in the effort to spark movement to address global climate change. An acclaimed journalist and author of The Heat is On: The Climate Crisis, the Cover-Up and the Prescription, and Boiling Point: How Politicians, Big Oil and Coal, Journalists and Activists Are Fueling the Crisis- And What We Can Do to Avert Disaster, Gelbspan's work has been recognized around the world as an informed, thoughtful, and challenging appraisal of our society's need to address the realities and consequences of human-caused Global Climate Change. Boiling Point looks at strategies to address climate change. The book received the lead review in the Sunday New York Times Book Review, written by former US Vice President Al Gore. It was also honored as one of the best science books of 2004 by Discover Magazine.

For lawyers and government, the challenge Gelbspan frames is how to make our legal system respond effectively to the climate problem when so many of our traditional political and business alliances are deeply reluctant to do so.

Gelbspan has been editor and reporter at The Boston Globe. He has also worked at the Washington Post, The Village Voice, and The Philadelphia Bulletin.

The presentation will take place at 3:15 pm in East Wing room 200. For more information or to RSVP, please contact Christine Zemina (zemina@bc.edu) or Ben Speiss (spiessb@bc.edu).

Reception to follow.
