Joshua Greene at BC Law April 11
4/05/05--In recognition of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the World
War II concentration camps, The Boston College Law School Jewish Law Students
Association is proud to welcome Joshua M. Greene to campus on Monday, April
11. Mr. Greene will discuss his book Justice at Dachau: the Trials of an American
Prosecutor.
The Nuremberg trials, which brought charges against a handful of Nazi top brass,
have been well-documented. Before now, however, little was known about the much
larger proceedings that took place 65 miles south, on the grounds of the former
Dachau concentration camp. The American Military chief prosecutor, William Denson,
was a soft-spoken Southern gentleman, a devout Presbyterian, who had to overcome
his own disbelief at the extent of the horror, prosecute crimes that international
law had never described, and prove to the world that America could provide a
defeated enemy with fair trials. Denson staved off pressures from Army superiors
for quick victories, and after two years of grueling courtroom proceedings achieved
a near-perfect record of convictions.
Writer Joshua M. Greene is a five-time recipient of TV Guide’s Best Programs
of the Year award, Director of Strategic Planning for the World Council of Religious
Leaders, and was chosen by the United Nations to produce a television special
honoring the U.N.’s 50th anniversary.
Book signing and reception to follow. Co-sponsored by Boston College Hillel
and Hillel Council of New England, the talk will be held on Monday, April 11th,
at 5 pm in room 120 of the Law School's East Wing building. For more information,
