Careers in International Law Panel Discussion
3/16/05—The Boston College International Law Society, in conjunction
with the Office of Career Services, is pleased to announce the event Careers
in International Law, a panel discussion and reception. The panel will be held
on Monday, March 21, 2005, in East Wing room 115A, from 3:30–4:30 pm,
and the reception will follow in Barat House.
Panelists include:
MICHAEL GLANZ
Chair, Foley Hoag’s firm’s International Practice Group
Mr. Glanz regularly advises U.S. and foreign companies on cross–border
transactions and operations, including structuring international operations,
development of joint ventures and entering into cross border acquisitions. He
has extensive experience with international forestry ventures including joint
ventures and acquisitions in New Zealand, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina and Australia.
Mr. Glanz regularly advises U.S. clients doing business in Japan including structuring
operations and negotiating joint ventures. He has served as privatization counsel
to the Government of Guyana in connection with the privatization of numerous
state owned entities, including the national airline and companies in the retail
and pharmaceutical sectors. Mr. Glanz was a member of the U.S. Delegation for
the U.S.–Ethiopian claims negotiations in Addis Ababa, 1985, and an adviser
to the Agent at the U.S.–Iran Claims Tribunal in the Hague, 1985.
JIM STOKES
Partner, Bingham McCutchen’s Corporate, Mergers and Acquisitions Group
Mr. Stokes spent five years as resident partner in the firm’s London office.
He devotes a significant amount of time to acquisitions, joint ventures and
corporate finance and project finance matters for U.S. and overseas-based clients.
He is a member of the state bars of Hawaii and Massachusetts and is admitted
to practice before the 1st and 9th Federal Circuits and the United States Court
of International Trade. Mr. Stokes is also licensed as a Registered Foreign
Lawyer by the Law Society of England and Wales. Between his graduation from
college and his enrollment in law school, Mr. Stokes served as an officer in
the U.S. Marine Corps.
MARSHA WEINERMAN
A Boston attorney with 20 years of varied public interest experience, including
legal services and municipal government, she was selected in 1999 to be a Rule
of Law Liaison with the American Bar Association Central European and Eurasian
Law Initiative (ABA-CEELI). Ms. Weinerman spent the year 2000 in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan,
and worked with the national judicial, lawyer and law student associations on
programming, training and legal education issues. She was also an International
Observer with the International Foundation for Election Systems (IFES) for the
Kyrgyz Parliamentary and Presidential elections in 2000. She has remained active
in pubic international law projects and currently chairs the Alumni Association
of the ABA-CEELI program and is the co-chair of the Boston Bar Association International
Public Law, Policy and Human Rights Committee of the International Section.
She has served as an OSCE Election Observer for the Russian Parliamentary Election
in 2003 and was an observer for all three rounds of the recent Ukraine Presidential
Election.
ROBERT TREVISANI
Partner, Gadsby Hannah LLP
Mr. Trevisani practices in corporate, taxation, securities and international
law. He was the Chairman and founder of the International Law Section of the
Boston Bar Association from 1992 through 1994. He is heavily involved with the
International Bar Association. He has been the Chairman of the IBA’s Section
of Legal Practices, a member of the IBA’s Management Committee, and a
member of the IBA Council. He has also been a member of the Human Rights Institute,
and a member of the Standing Committee on Globalization of the Law. In May of
2003, Mr. Trevisani co-founded (as a division of the Commonwealth Charitable
Foundation), the Freedom and Peace Trust which has distributed in excess of
$12 Million of medications throughout Iraq and conducted the first psychiatric
conference organized in Kuwait City in October of 2003 dealing with the mental
health needs of the Iraqi people.
