Curtin Named Recipient of Lifetime Achievement Award
2/11/05—Boston College Law School is pleased to announce that alumnus
John J. Curtin, Jr. (’54, J.D. ’57) has been named one of the recipients
of The Second Annual American Lawyer’s Lifetime Achievement Awards.
The award winners will be honored at a gala dinner on March 30, to be held at
the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City.
"The American Lawyer's Lifetime Achievement Awards, established last year,
recognize distinguished attorneys, selected by the editors of the magazine,
for their career accomplishments in both private practice and public service,"
said Aric Press, American Lawyer’s editor in chief. "We believe these
individuals represent examples to the profession, and we look forward to honoring
them in person next month."
This year's other award honorees are: Brooksley E. Born, Arnold & Porter;
James Ellis and William H. Gates, Preston Gates & Ellis; John J. Gibbons,
Gibbons, Del Deo, Dolan, Griffinger & Vecchione; Ben W. Heinemann, Jr.,
General Electric; Elaine Jones, NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund; and
R. Sargent Shriver, Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson.
John Curtin, Jr. is a partner at Bingham McCutchen, LLP, and former Chairman
of the firm’s Litigation Department. He has served as trial counsel in
many complex commercial and criminal jury and non-jury trials and appeals in
state and federal courts.
Mr. Curtin is a long time supporter of BC Law, and along with his wife founded
the Mary Daly Curtin and John J. Curtin Jr. Center for Public Interest Law at
the Law School. The center houses a group of student organizations devoted to
public interest and public service legal work. The Curtins also have established
a fund to support various public interest activities at the Law School.
