10/26/05--Boston College Law School will send two teams to the American Bar Association Negotiation Competition. The Northeast Regional Rounds of the competition will be held in November at Boston University Law School.

First-year students John Weaver and Matt Stevens (Team 38), and Christine Yost and Joseph Lamy (Team 25), were selected to represent the school after an internal negotiation competition run by the Board of Student Advisors. In a record turnout, One Hundred and Forty first-year students entered the competition. The Final Rounds were held on October 11, 2005, before a distinguished panel of attorneys and professors.

The judges in the finals were William R. Kolb, a partner at Foley Hoag, LLP, and chair of its Mergers and Acquisitions Practice Group, Kristen Kuliga, a founder of K Sports and Entertainment, an athlete management and representation firm, Ericka B. Gray, President of DisputEd and an Adjunct Faculty member teaching a course in mediation, and Professor Robert M. Bloom.

The timely problem involved a terrorist threat to a hotel, and the ensuing negotiations between the hotel and a trade association over the impact of the threat on their contract for a conference to be held at the hotel. The team of John Weaver and Matt Stevens represented the association. The team of Christine Yost and Joseph Lamy negotiated on behalf of the hotel. The other finalist teams were Michael O'Neill and Jason Gagnon, and Tim Monahan and Tuck O'Brien.
