Faculty Colloquia Series 2003-2004
5/06/04—Boston College Law School’s Faculty Colloquia Series came
to a conclusion on Friday, April 30, with Professor Suja Thomas of the University
of Cincinnati College of Law addressing the BC Law faculty. Thomas spoke on
the role of judges in reviewing the powers of the jury.
Thomas graduated from the New York University School of Law, where she served
as an Articles Editor on the Law Review and where she received several awards
including the Leonard M. Henkin Prize for her note on equal rights under the
14th Amendment, the Mendes Hershman Prize for excellence in writing in the field
of property law and the William Miller Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship
in the field of municipal law. She served as a law clerk for the Hon. John F.
Grady, U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Illinois, and practiced
law with Cravath, Swaine & Moore; Vladeck, Waldman, Elias & Engelhard,
P.C. and Weil, Gotshal & Manges, LLP before starting her own law practice
in New York City.
Eight speakers participated in the 2003-2004 Faculty Colloquia Series at BC
Law. Other speakers included Professor Michael Stein from William and Mary School
of Law, who spoke on disability law as a problem in civil rights law, and Greg
Magarian from Villanova University School of Law, who spoke on First Amendment
issues.
