Envisioning the Church Women Want
4/05/04-- Boston College Law School, in partnership with the Women’s
Resource Center and the Church in the 21st Century, is pleased to announce a
two-day conference entitled Envisioning the Church Women Want from April 16th
to April 17th on the Newton Campus. This conference will celebrate the past
and future of women in the Catholic Church.
"We’re very pleased to be able to host this conference," said
BC Law Dean John H. Garvey. “The Church in the 21st Century project has
brought enlightenment and understanding to its audience, and has been an important
vehicle for change at a difficult time. This conference will continue that effort
as it takes a very serious look at the role of women in the Church.”
The conference promises to bring together Catholic women and men of diverse
experiences, interests, and ages. The guest speakers include Dr. Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz,
Professor of Ethics and Theology, Drew University; Dr. Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ,
Professor of Theology, Fordham University; and Miriam Therese Winter, Director
of Women's Leadership Institute, Center for Faith and Practice, Hartford Seminary.
Participants will register for morning and afternoon workshops, such as "Women
Leaders Creating Church," "When Bishops Listened to Women: The 'Women's
Pastoral' 12 Years Later," "Catholics on Campus: Young Adult Perspectives
on Church," and "Spirituality and Justice: The Demands of a Lived
Faith."
The cost of the conference is $40, $15 for students (scholarships are available—call
617-552-0470). The registration cost includes the reception, breakfast, and
lunch. Participants should register early due to limited spacing. For more information
