Alfred Yen Named Director of Emerging Enterprises
03/18/04–Boston College Law School is pleased to announce that Professor
Fred Yen has been named the new Director of Emerging Enterprises and Business
Law. Yen will officially begin his new duties on March 12, 2004.
“I want to thank Fred for agreeing to contribute his administrative talents
to coordinate and improve our efforts in this area,” says Dean John Garvey.
“We now have more than a dozen faculty who teach in corporations, securities
law, commercial law, tax, employment law, intellectual property, and related
fields. There’s been a tremendous amount of growth in this field, and
it will continue to grow as we move forward. Fred is the perfect choice to lead
this program.”
As the new Director of Emerging Enterprises and Business Law, Professor Yen’s
objectives will include developing and sequencing the Law School’s business
curriculum, collaborating between the Law School and the Carroll School in the
JD/MBA program and other joint ventures, marketing to attract students and publicizing
the Law School’s efforts in the area, and hosting scholarly conferences,
speakers, and symposia.
Professor Yen, who currently teaches Sports Law, and has taught Torts and Copyright
Law, is a nationally known scholar who has published numerous articles about
copyright law, the Internet, Asian-American legal issues, and law teaching.
Professor Yen has also held many positions of leadership within legal education
and the broader practicing bar. He recently completed a term on the Board of
Editors for the Journal of Legal Education and the Board of Governors for the
Society of American Law Teachers.
