9/17/03--Boston College Law School is pleased to welcome the entering class of 2006. This year’s admission process set another school record in applications received with 7818, or over 27 candidates for every seat in the entering class.

The class of 2006 is one of the most competitive and impressive in the school’s history. BC Law is once again among the top few law schools in the country in application volume.

“Our program continues to be recognized as one of the best in the country,” said BC Law Dean John H. Garvey. “The number of applications we receive and the quality of our entering class are a testament to the hard work and talent of our faculty and staff, and to our philosophy of teaching. We’re very pleased with this year’s class and thankful to all who contributed to the admissions process, and we’re looking forward to working with such an impressive new group of students.”

This year was the most difficult ever to gain admission to BC Law, and the class of 2006 is one of the most diverse in the school’s history. The class is split into a 45 percent male and 55 percent female ratio, with an average age of 24. Entering students represent 36 states and 116 different colleges and universities. Eighteen percent are students of color, while 29 students in the entering class hold a Master’s Degree and 3 hold PhD.’s. Median LSAT scores have again increased to 163, and median undergraduate GPA increased to 3.63. Fifty students graduated Phi Beta Kappa from their undergraduate program.

The class of 2006 includes a United States Foreign Service Officer, and a 2 Gold, 2 Silver and 3 Bronze Olympic medalist. “We have students who have served in Americorps, the Peace Corps and Jesuit Volunteer Corps,” said Elizabeth Rosselot, Assistant Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid. “They’ve worked as research analysts and on political campaigns. They’ve taught, served in the military, and quite a number have been journalists, including two writers for the New York Times. Four of them had Fulbright Scholarships. It’s a remarkable record of achievement.”
