Advocacy Teams Continue to Shine
3/4/03--After the initial success of the Jessup and Braxton Craven Moot Court
teams, Boston College Law Schools advocacy teams continue to shine in
competition.
Director of Advocacy Programs Alexis Anderson reports that BC Law teams fared
extremely well at the regionals of the Mock Trial competition, held at Western
New England Law School. "The team of Sherry Ortiz, Matthew Foye, and Kathleen
Cortes lost an excruciatingly close verdict at the finals [to Yale]," Anderson
said. "Our other team, Eugenia La Fontaine, Christine Daley and Nicholas
O'Donnell, went to the semi-finals. We owe a debt of gratitude to their very
dedicated coaches, Paul McManus and Cathleen Bennett."
At the request of interested 3L students and the willingness of coach Joe Liu,
BC Law had their first entry in the Saul Lefkowitz Patent and Trademark Moot
Court competition, held in New York City last weekend. Due to an administrative
problem by the competition organizers, the team did not receive the problem
in a timely fashion, Anderson said. "Despite that handicap, the team comprised
of Dan Gold, Anthony King and Dan Scales came in second at the event. Congratulations
to the team and their coach on their inaugural outing."
At the Pace Environmental Moot Court competition, held in New York last weekend,
the BC Law team composed of 3L's Jessica Hutchins, Bill Hubbard and Kyle Loring
drew a very tough side to represent (the polluters). Despite that handicap,
they advanced to the quarterfinals.
"Its been a successful year so far," Anderson said. "Ive
very proud of all our teams. Congratulations are due to all our advocates and
their hard-working coaches."
