7th Annual Road Race to Fight Cancer
Funds Raised to Benefit Cancer Research and Scholarship in Memory of Beloved
Member of the BC Law School Community
4/04/02-The Boston College Law School community will call attention to the fight
against cancer and raise funds for the Dana-Farber Cancer Institutes Jimmy
Fund when it holds its Seventh Annual Race Ipsa Loquitur five kilometer charity
road race on Saturday, April 20, at 10:30 A.M. About a hundred law students,
faculty and administrators will run, and walk, the course that winds for more
than three miles through the City of Newton, Mass.
In addition to collecting contributions for cancer research, race proceeds will
benefit the Dean Brian P. Lutch Memorial Scholarship Fund, which was established
at the law school in memory of Brian P. Lutch, a Newton resident and former
associate dean of the law school who in 1995 succumbed to complications from
a bone marrow transplant at the age of 47. Cancer claims the lives of more than
550,000 Americans each year making it the second leading cause of death in the
United States. The memorial scholarship fund assists Boston College law students
who have financial need due to debilitating illness.
The charity road race is being sponsored by the schools Law Student Association
(LSA). The LSA is the elected student government at Boston College Law School
and the largest student organization within the law school community. In addition
to sponsoring the annual Race Ipsa Loquitur charity road race, the LSA offers
a broad range of social, charitable, educational, and professional activities
