Client Counseling Wins Regionals; Craven Places Strong 3rd

2/11/02--Boston College Law School is proud to announce that the schoolÂ’s Client Counseling Team of Brandon Barkhuff and Doug Tillberg, winners of the intramural competition held here at BC Law at the end of January, have won the regional competition, which was held at Cardoza Law School in New York City on February 10. Barkhuff and Tillberg will now go on to the national competition, which will take place March 16-17 at Baylor Law School in Waco, Texas.

"They were strong in every category," said Evangeline Sarda, a BC Law clinical professor and team coach who accompanied the team to New York. "Particularly effective was their understanding and use of law -- at issue spotting and at using the law that exists creatively and constructively. For first year students who have not yet had a final exam, to tackle environmental law issues and do so well was very, very impressive."

The team received the highest scores from each of the judges in every one of their rounds. If they win the national competition in March, the final step is the international competition in April, which will be held in Florida.

In other advocacy team news, the Braxton Craven Constitutional Law Moot Court team competed at the University of North Carolina law School on February 9-10 and placed a very strong third, losing in the semis to the eventual winner. The Craven team consisted of Dan Brown, Scott Hennessey, and Michael (Tony) Shaw, with Tom Aquino as Team Manager/substitute. Professor Tom Barnico served as coach for the team.
