American Constitution Society Presentation
11/8/01-The Boston College Law School chapter of the American Constitution Society is pleased to present "Bush v. Gore: One Year Later", a moderated discussion featuring Heather Gerken of the Harvard Law School and Calvin Massey of the UC Hastings School of Law and a visiting professor at BCLaw. BCLaw faculty member Reginald Alleyne will serve as moderator for this event, which will take place Thursday, November 15, at 4:00 pm on the Boston College Law School campus in East Wing120.
"Bush v. Gore was one of the most significant Supreme Court cases in the last 50 years. It was meaningful not only as a judicial act but as a political one as well," said BCLaw Professor Kent Greenfield. "Boston College Law School and the American Constitution Society are honored to have two such esteemed and thoughtful constitutional scholars as Heather Gerken and Calvin Massey discuss the case. They may disagree on whether the judgment is defensible, but we will learn much from the nature of their disagreements."
Professors Gerken and Massey will discuss both the reasoning and results of this case, as well as the impact this decision might have on our future understanding of Equal Protection, federalism, standing, remedies, and political question jurisdiction. The cite for this case is 531 US 98. For more information, please contact Zachary L. Heiden, President of the BCLaw chapter of the American Constitution Society, at heiden@bc.edu.
