Wine Tasting Event to Benefit Clinical Programs
5/9/01--Boston College Law School is pleased to report that its recent event, hosted in conjunction with The Napa Valley Vintners Association, "A Wine Tasting on the Waterfront," was a tremendous success. The exclusive evening of wine tasting and conversation directly benefited the BCLS Clinical Programs, and 60 Owners and Winemakers from the Napa Valley participated.
"Picture-perfect weather, exquisite food, and 60 vitners pouring over 250 wines," said BCLS Regional Director of Major Gifts Cathy Dernoncourt, who helped organize the event. "With over 300 people attending, we were tremendously pleased with the outcome of this first Wine Tasting event. We are most grateful for the opportunity to join with the Napa Valley Vintners Association in celebrating the extraordinary work of the Clinical Programs, and for generosity of our sponsors."
Sponsors for the event included Kirkpatrick & Lockhart, Mintz Levin Cohn Ferris Glovsky & Popeo, and Ropes & Gray. Also supporting the event were Vintner Sponsors John Hanify of Hanify & King, Robert Naumes as well as sponsors Anne & Todd Jackowitz, Sen. Robert Creedon, Edwards & Angell, Nutter McClennen & Fish, Skadden & Arps, and Michael and Christine Puzo. Chef David Bruce provided the food.
The event raised approximately $25,000 for the BCLS Clinical Programs.
Boston College Law School has a long and cherished tradition of combining the highest regard for learning with an emphasis on service to others. The school's commitment to service has taken many forms and among its most far reaching are its clinical programs. These programs arrange for direct representation by BCLS students and faculty of individuals who cannot otherwise afford legal services. Through such programs as the Legal Assistance Bureau, the Criminal Justice Clinic, the Juvenile Rights Advocacy Project and the Immigration and Asylum Project, hundreds of individuals are ably represented in the greater Boston area justice system each year.
Dernoncourt credits much of the success of the event to the commitment of a committee of 50 BCLS alumni, and to the leadership of Jane Holt and Helene Haddad '83.
