BCLS Students Recieve Honors for Their Articles

3/20/01--Two Boston College Law School students, Jessica Speigel and Steve Oxman, were recently recognized for the quality of their writing. Speigel ('01) has been awarded the 2001 Deak Award, a prestigious award for the best article appearing in a student-edited international law journal. She will be recognized at the annual dinner of the American Society of International Law in Washington D.C. where she will be given her award for her article entitled "Will the Great Banana War Ever End: Will the Tariff Only System be the Solution."

Oxman ('01) has been selected to present his paper at the Yale Journal of International Law Young Scholars Conference on March 24. The Young Scholars Conference offers students with the opportunity to present their original papers in international and comparative law. Oxman's paper "Corporate Communications with In-House Counsel in the European Union: Potential Protected or Doomed for Disclosure?" was one of three chosen for this year's conference.

"I'm extremely pleased and proud of Jessica and Steve," said BCLS Dean John H. Garvey. "The awards say a lot about the quality of their work. They also make an important statement about the quality of our journals. I congratulate them both."
