BCLS to Host "Women in the Law" Panel Discussion
1/16/01--The Women's Bar Association student board and the BCLS Women's Law Center will be sponsoring a panel discussion called "Women in the Law: Opportunities and Options." Students from New England, Suffolk, Northeastern and BU will also be present at this first ever inter-law school women's event, scheduled to take place on January 23.
"Women have a unique perspective on their careers," said Director of Career Services Jean French. "With approximately half of the new lawyers being women, it is more important than ever that women discuss and understand how they can shape the legal profession to meet their professional goals."
Panelists will address issues such as how to find your legal niche, how to play the office politics game, and how to manage both personal and work commitments. The panel includes Gretchen Van Ness, Solo Practitioner, Working on the Mary Daly Case; Helen Moreschi, Chairwoman of the Labor Relations Commission; Nancer Ballard, of Goodwin, Proctor and Hoar; Diane Cabell, Harvard Clinical Prof. in Cyber Law; and Denise Jefferson-Casper of the US Attorneys Office.
The numbers of female applicants to law school are growing swiftly across the country. This past year was the first in BCLS history that the percentage of women in the entering class was over 50%.
The discussion will occur on Tuesday, Jan. 23, at 5:30 pm in East Wing room 120.
