New BCLS Intership Program
1/08/01--Boston College Law School has launched its first International Law Internship Program for first year law students. In partnership with the law firms Bingham Dana LLP, Brown Rudnick Freed & Gesmer, and Brobeck Hale and Dorr, the program offers students the opportunity to spend their first-year summer in the one of these Boston firms' London offices.
"This is a very exciting new program which will give first-year law students a unique international experience," said BCLS Director of Career Services Jean French. "We believe that this will be invaluable to those seeking to practice law in the international arena. We're very appreciative of the enthusiastic participation of these three premier firms."
The London office of Bingham Dana, a 400-attorney international firm, is comprised of both U.S. attorneys and English solicitors. It has special expertise in international finance, international tax planning, cross-border acquisitions, joint ventures, equity investments, debt restructuring and international licensing.
Brown Rudnick Freed & Gesmer, a 155-attorney international firm, established its London office to serve as a gateway for servicing European-based clients seeking access to U.S. capital markets and to expanding their overseas operations. The firm is committed to connecting European clients and the European venture capital and investment banking communities.
Brobeck Hale & Dorr is a unique joint venture with its founding firms, Brobeck Phelger & Harrison LLP and Hale & Dorr LLP. The London office advises clients in the global technology industry. Its clients include a wide range of companies in the information technology, telecommunications, computer software and hardware, internet biotechnology and live science industries, as well as the investment banks, venture capitalists and other financial intermediaries that serve technology companies.
Each firm selects one first-year law student to work as a legal intern in their London office, for a period of 8-10 weeks. To qualify for the program, students must complete their first year of law school in May 2001. Interested students should contact the BCLS Career Services Office for additional information. The deadline for applying is Friday, January 26, at noon.
