Giving to the Law School

Each year, Boston College Law School depends on the generosity of alumni and friends to provide financial support for the law school’s most pressing needs. Gifts sustain a wide-range of programs and initiatives including scholarships, loan repayment assistance, faculty research grants, and improvements to campus. Though financial support has certainly experienced recent ups and downs, fundraising appears to be on an upward trajectory, starting with last fiscal year’s results.

In FY11, BC Law received a generous record-breaking $6.3M in cash donations, compared to $4.7M in FY10. Pledges have also improved with $4.7M committed in FY11, compared to $3.7M in FY10. The historical giving results of BC Law donations is more clearly outlined in the chart below, which displays commitments (in maroon) and cash (in gold) over the last 13 years.

The dedication in making BC Law an even better institution of legal education is evident in the support of alumni and friends through their gifts, both large and small. And the story that the chart does not tell is that of a network of committed alumni that continues to grow and strengthen in its resolve to make Boston College Law School all that it aspires to be. Alumni are doing so by giving generously to the annual fund through reunion and class gift participation, by remembering BC Law in their estate plans, and by pledging to create their own named, endowed funds at the Law School for scholarships, loan repayment assistance, faculty research, and much more.
